***X Pipe: power loss/gain***

Please post your observations as to whether an X pipe has increased or reduced your power output, whp/wtq.
I am contemplating installing an X pipe on my 4.8iS for increased decibels, but don't want to sacrifice power. Thanks for your opinions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
well on my 4.4i with the x-pipe i noticed a stronger mid-top end the low end feels the same...and its not too loud but i want to get billy boat mufflers for my car =)....i love the sound :wow:

Change of sound, nothing else to be lost or gained.

I emailed hartge to ask if they claim any gains with the x-pipe i got.
he replied 5-6 hp... i will be installing when i return from my vaca. |

I wouldnt know if there was a loss but it doesn't feel like it on my 3.0

Lost lots of low end torque with x-pipe on my 4.4. There was what felt like a gain at 4000+, but I tow my trailer at 2500-3500 rpm and couldn't afford to lose that low end grunt. Swapped to straight pipes with an H between them and gained all my torque back.

If the Xpipe is such a good thing, why did the BMW engineers miss that configuration in their design of the exhaust? I think they would know whats best suited for the SAV. Just my $.02

It depends really on how the x-pipe is done whether or not there is a gain or loss. What you really should do is install some kind of cover for the exhaust outlet that you can control from the driver's seat, let's call it an exhaust sphincter. Keep the sphincter closed and all the exhaust will build up in the system until the sphincter at some point will no longer be able to hold it. Just at that moment you press the button (or whatever) to relax the sphincter and the hot exhaust gas goes shooting out of the tailpipes. I would conservatively estimate an 8-580 hp gain, depending on the pressure of course. I think it's a genius system, but for the life of me I can't recall from where exactly I got the original idea.
