window regulator problem?

Hello guys, before I pull my door panel off, and risk breaking clips and whatnot, I am hoping for some advice. One of the rear windows on my 2001 X5 slides down a little on its own. The electric switch can be used to pull the window down, but does not push it up. The motor works, but I hear a clicking and slipping sound when I try to raise the window and therefore have to do it by hand. Once it is up, it slowly slides down and does not stay up.

Is this definitely a window regulator that needs replacing? Is it possible that the regulator is ok, and there is something that I just need to adjust once I pull the door panel off?

I'm trying to avoid buying a new regulator if I don't need it, and avoiding pulling the door panel off unless I have a regulator ready to install, since I don't want to do it twice.

thanks!

my guess would be the regulator or motor....there a great video on youtube on how to remove the door panel. the guy did it in 5 minutes - no broken clips

Thanks, but my question was not really answered. Is my "sagging" window definitely a regulator? Or could it be something else?

the problem most likely sounds like the clip on the window regulator. I just had to replace the two window clips that hould the window to the regulator while I was there I did the diy with the wire. After I put it all back together I found out that my driver side switch maybe going. The only place I have found that sales the main swith is BMWSpecalist but there out of stock. Doses anyone know of another place?

Where do I get the clips you're talking about? And can you point me to the DIY you're referring to? Thanks,

I just replaced the a broken regulator clip this evening. I didnt even have to remove the regulator from the door to access it. It's part number 51-33-8-254-781. It didnt make my window sag, it just made it rattle

I have the same problem! Two days back I heard a loud snap while driving from the drivers side rear and next thing I see was the window sinking down. I managed to hold it (wedging papers to keep it in place, because it was raining) and when I pressed on the switch, I heard the motor work but could not roll back up. The opening button did work however.

I am also wondering, do I need to purchase a regulator or I could I use these clips as well??

Not sure. The crunch leads Leto believe it is the clip though. But my window still went up/down. However that may be because only 1 clip snapped and not both? Start with clip and buy regulator if you need to. You'll know once you get in there
