strange sound from the transmission

I can hear it only when braking (sometimes) and when accelerating gently(less than a second)
the sound is unnoticeable and is like a little " ting"(maybe the tranny is facing some difficulties while changing gear,)
i changed the trans oil and the filter two monthes ago due to a leak
and i have never faced a trans problem
some info:X5 4.4 2001
99 000 ( MILES OR KILOMETRES :P)

thanks for your help;)

do you experience rough shifting? ... the 4.4s are known to have tranny issues...

I've noticed this on my 2002 4.6is also, if i accelerate just a little and get off the gas there is a metallic clanging noise. Did you ever find out what the cause is?

Does it have sounds when you change from Neutral to Drive or Reverse?

X5V8RULES 09-28-2011 02:24 AM

Same issue here . Yes there is a cling from p to R

It's not Transmission. It's something by Transfer case, need to be greaced I think.

fmugur 09-28-2011 01:05 PM

The transfer case chain is stretched and touches the case.
