Sorry for the outage this morning.... explanation

Our web host experienced a major outage early this morning. Here is a brief explanation of the problem:

At 4:09AM CST, a power failure occurred in a redundant pair of Powerware UPS units feeding power to section B of the DLLSTX2 datacenter. The power failure was caused by a faulty fuse in UPS unit B-1. As the load transferred to UPS unit B-2, the spike in the load created an overloaded breaker and UPS B2 also lost power. This resulted in a power outage to the main power distribution unit feeding section B of the datacenter floor. Emergency teams were notified and the power was restored within 20 minutes. The power continued to cycle until 6:45AM due to the faulty fuse and the inability of the redundant UPS units to remain in bypass mode. Customers may have noticed several power cycles during this time period. Powerware, JT Packard, and electricians found the problem and replaced the faulty hardware and fuses. At 6:45AM, all electrical service was restored to normal and the NOC team began to bring all servers back online. The technical staff is currently placing a console on all servers to verify server restarts. Customers with operating systems that require a file check may have experienced extended downtime during the file check. Powerware and JT Packard will continue to monitor the UPS systems for the next 24 to 48 hours. The Planet does not anticipate any further outages. A formal RFO will be released once the team debriefs. We apologize for all issues that has caused.
The site is now back up, and hopefully future issues like this do not reoccur.

Sorry for the problems.

LoL - it would have had to be one huge beer. Hundreds of servers and thousands of sites were down as a result of this incident. We were just a small drop in the bucket. :throw:

All good Jeff. Not that I understood any of it. ;)

Put the big boat in yesterday - even got to take it out for a short shake down run before getting her situated in the slip. Nothing like having a good mechanic on the payroll to keep things running right (they are NOT easy to find around here).

Even cooler: was given back an old laptop that I put a fresh copy of win2k on and little else. Hooked up my kyocera cell phone and using it as a modem when on the boat. Was surfing X5World last night wirelessly in the salon, heat on and of course cold beer in hand. Life is looking up!

Sweet. It's still "wax on" season here. Launch in a few weeks, hopefully

Great idea about tethering the old laptop to the cell phone. Without anything to interfere with the signal, cell coverage on the open water is generally pretty good as long as you don't get too far off shore.

I wouldn't mind doing some open water boating in that neck of the woods some time. My boating has generally been on the Great Lakes and down in the Florida Keys.
