I don't know what brand of paint that you used, but mine G2 calipers paint looks like new after 5 years.

forgotten brand, question is do callipers exceed 200c?

Hard to know or guess, from here...
A friend road races and uses tell tale strips on his calipers,
to denote temps over 200C, (for brake fluid changes).
He has gotten well over 260C, but it is a serious car on
serious tracks.

Unless you are riding the brake down mtn roads all day, I
would think you don't exceed 200C on your cals, but that's
a guess. I think that is ~400 degs F.

The bigger issue is prep of the caliper(s) before painting,
and quality of paint, (G2 is really good stuff, imo), etc.

thanks for reply, nah don't do any crazy driving any more, and the only time i guess they would heat up would be on winding mountain roads on the descent, in which case i use 'manual' on the auto gearbox and let the engine slow me down not the brakes.......such is my memory that i looked at the paint tin half hour ago and have forgotten already what brand it was:dunno:

it's all in the prep work. I painted a set of calipers on my 911 track car a few years ago with the basic Autozone VHT red high heat paint, and it flaked right off when the calipers got hot. And I'd gone so far as to wire brush and use lacquer thinner to thoroughly clean the calipers prior to painting.

Then I used a caliper paint kit I got from Pelican that includes all the prep and paint stuff necessary. Held up well on both the 911 and an Audi I had at the time. But I did get the 911 calipers to turn brown from extreme heat.

I painted the calipers on my 325 with cheap autozone caliper paint. I just sold the car, a year and a half after painting them, and they still looked good. For prep I just washed them with engine degreaser, sprayed them with brake cleaner, and used compressed air to dry them.

thanks for all the replies, i guess the only way to know is to go for a long hard drive
