can info from my current X5 cluster be transfered?

i accidently broke my gauge needle by pulling to hard and the wound up wire is crap now and wont go back, been shopping around for a used one and was wondering if i can swap and have my info (milage,etc...) transfered to other unit or is new my only option? thanks

Mileage info is also stored at few places other than cluster so that will not be effected. You dealer will take care of it.

hmm just glanced over some x threads and some m5 threads and most say it will work i just need to have the dealer re-code and have them tell the cluster its an X. if this does not work ill just buy the new one from dealer. got an m5 cluster off ebay for under 400 so ill try if no luck ill return . thank you for the info tho. i guess ill need luck lol.

Most dealers will not recode a used cluster, thus forcing you to buy a new one from them. Hopefully you will get lucky and have a dealer that will do this for you. Let us know how it works out.

lol i hope so, actually, after ucrew mention that i called my service guy whome isnt affiliated with bmwna but does dealer work and so forth, said he can re-code for me...lol i hope hes right. he said hes done so in the past with crashed cars.
