Transmission oil 2005 X5 4.8IS

Anyone know what trans oil I need to use on a
ZF6HP26
GA6HP26Z
The stealer are reluctant to give that info. They want $875 CAD just to change the oil.I'm no idiot.I use to be a licenced mechanic. So paying close $900 CAD for a 30 to 40 minute job that I can do myself is just insane.
Can't find any info on what oil to use. Could use some Xoutpost members help?

Not buying the oil from the stealers.

Thanks in advance.

We have an entire section of transmission fluids available specifically for the E53 4.8iS

Your specific transmission calls for anything spec'd to "Shell M-1375.4"

The OEM spec the fluid needs to meet is the Shell specification listed above. BMW don't use their own spec for this fluid. Trouble is, we don't know how close or not the Redline fluids are to meeting (or exceeding) that Shell specification. Redline doesn't typically complete the certifications, as an example reference their lack of Dexron certification. They use phrases such as "suitable for applications that call for spec xxx" instead of the phrase "meets spec xxx". Using the Dexron example, GM didn't list the Redline fluids as meeting Dexron specs last time I looked.

BMW specify two different fluids for the 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder applications. Redline say that their fluid bridges across both specs, and is suitable for both transmissions. You can think of it as either a very versatile fluid, or a compromise, take your pick.

Lots of people like Redline products, but just be aware that it is not an approved fluid.

I just replaced my transmission oil last week. I purchased the oil filter and pan gasket for less then $400 with tax. I did not want to have issues with the trans or with BMW NA saying I used the wrong fluid. The BMW part number is #83 22 0 142 516. The transmission fluid is also available from BMP Design in one gallon jugs. I used 5.5 liters. The dealer was more then happy to sell the fluid to me, and the service department recommended changing the fluid at 90k miles. I have a photo of the five gallon container they sold me if you need.

BMP design : BMW Automatic Transmission Fluid (M-1375.4)

The change over was easy and I have put close to 750 miles on it with no issues.
