FX45 AWD or X5 4.8IS
 

Loving my 2007 FX35 AWD that I picked up a few months back. So far she is been amazing moshallah knock on wood. Been contemplating between FX45 AWD or a 2006 BMW X5 4.8IS. Which one should I chose, and why? I test drove the X5 4.8IS today for the first time. The engine/exhaust noise is insane, and the handling is superb. I haven't test driven the FX45 AWD. I'd assume it drives the same as my FX35, but probably little faster in the straight line. Any input is given is appreciated. I saw a few videos on Youtube and somehow despite have lower HP, the FX45 is faster in straight line. But the X5 4.8IS looks good. With the price of a 2006 X5 4.8IS at 31K miles, I can pick up a 2008 FX45 AWD with 15K miles.

no comparison. The 4.8is is a beast. feels like your driving a car. It also looks hot as hell.

X5 site ... X5 love... get the 4.8..

Side note: that grey 4.8is is just too beautiful.. wish the US had it.

4.8is....our member b-line here bought FX45 and then sold within few months to get 4.8is. You can check with him for his views.

Go with the 4.8is, i just got mine in march and had dinan software upgrade :). It's fun to drive. Strongly recommended...

I know i was comparing 3.0 to FX35 and both rather old (01 and 05), but you might get a sense of comparison of the two manufacturers (notice that BMW 01 is compared to Nissan/Infinity 05)

Great thread guys, I'm sold on the 4.8IS. I hope the local dealer works with me. I'm a cash buyer, but I'll only be interested at 31-33K. I don't know if it will fly with them. This is also a dealer who would rather sit on cars for 4-5 months than take a quick profit and move on to the next car.

The 4.8 without a question.. The choice between a top of the line BMW or a fancy nissan aka infiniti should be an easy one plus an 06 4.8 is rare and if you have the oppurtunity to get one i would act fast.

From my personal experience test driving, I feel that the FX35-45-50 handles like complete crap. For the money, I don't feel that it's a good value purchase.

funny, while watching the vid of the x5 being beat by the infiniti i was thinking how sweet that x5 looked!

thats not a bad price compared to what BMW has the same truck with more miles. Funny the pick is if a white with grey interior and the info says it silver with black interior.

Responded, I've talked these guys down to 32K on the 06. I don't know if they will go lower.

^^ That's the season for SUV's, that would be crazy time to buy. You buy sport car when it's snowing, and SUV when it's hot as hell to get the best deals.

gameovr, you have to wait for the inflection point to strike. human nature is an amazing subject. a week or two before the snow hits the ground and the deals are SCREAMINGLY good.

if you wait until the week of or after snow, you lose...


as well, it is just before xmas season, so there are fewer buyers. Manheim has extensive data about used sales. If you can wait for gas prices to spike, then you are a super big winner...

the FX has too much suspension play for me. Go for the 4.8, you wont regret it.

I had a FX35 and you are right. I think the suspension was jumpy over rough terrain. Another thing i didnt like was that the brakes were not that great for such a massive and fast vehicle

I wonder if that how the 4.8is is since its a SPORT suv as well.

The X5 has an excellent braking system, its touchy at first, but you'll get used to it quickly and like the responsiveness

4.8is all the way! BMW's is a better athlete than any japanese SAV's. btw, i had a 350Z and traded it in for my 4.6is.
