motordavid - thanks for the advice. This threads sounds reassuring after reading a bunch of threads on potential problems. I will make sure to check the history thoroughly and get a pre purchase inspection.
jbny - thanks man. I prefer the 4.8i, now I just have to find one in good condition and at a reasonable price. These cars are a lot more expensive (even used) here in Europe compared to the US, but I am hopeful to find one I like:) |
1) Consider a 3.0 diesel.
2) I would expect a 100k-150k miles out of a pre-facelift x5 auto tranny 3) a post-facelift x5 has a better awd system -- good for Austria |

It's a free planet (sort of) so you / he can buy a Cayenne TT or a BMW equivalent getting 12 mpg sitting in traffic all day but there are practical limitations to what a super SAV can do and will do in congested Europe / US. What I suggested is driving the 3.0 diesel and making an informed choice. What's not to understand? |
Georgiev, i have a 4.4i and love it to death. Although, i wish everyday that i had the extra coin to get the 4.8is. With my 4.4i i've had the intermediate levers fixed, new transmission replaced under warranty (thank god) and of course the usual maintainance. If money is driving your decision, you may be better off getting a lower mileage 4.4 rather than a higher mileage 4.8is. Obviously the best would be a low mileage 4.8is though.
Enjoy the car, and whatever decision you make, guaranteed you'll be happy with the X5 |
