Transmission Problem?

Hey everybody,

Yesterday, a landscaping truck cut me off, forcing me to slam on the brakes. As I sped up to pass him out of anger, instead of shifting into a higher gear, my car's RPMs went well into redline and the engine seemed to cut power to the wheels. I let off the gas and after a good 7 seconds it finally shifted into the proper gear and I drove away. The rest of the ride home the car shifted normally.

However, later that night, i once again punched the gas when i was screwing around with some buddies. And to my surprise i noticed the same problem as earlier. My car has an Automatic Transmission (3.0i and 88,000 miles). I was in DS mode, which obviously makes it shift later, but never has it redlined before.

Not sure if this is a related problem, but my car has been throwing "Lambda contol tolerance Bank 1 and 2" codes (running to rich/lean)... which seem to be destroying my MPGs. Not throwing any transmission related codes however.

Making an appointment at the dealer for both problems. But any help on the first problem would be GREATLY apprietiated.

Thanks.

Having the same type of temperamental shifting as well. Please let us know what ended up being the case.

First thing I'd do is either check/top off the fluid, or do a spill and fill on the fluid in the pan as delayed shifting under full load can be caused by low fluid levels. Just don't forget there is no transmission dipstick so you have to do all the filling from underneath with the engine running. Also, OBDII code readers only read engine codes, do not read transmission codes or any other system... The dealer equipment will read out all faults for all systems.
