Auto headlights not working properly
 

Recently my headlights have not been coming on in the dark or more often coming on then going out after about 2 secs. I am suprised as it has worked sweetly for 3+ yrs, can anyone help?

Most likely need a new rain and light sensor.

I think you are right Weasel as the rain sensor isnt working as well either, I am very annoyed though as it has happened since the windscreen was replaced.

Ok, that makes a difference too. The electronic part of the sensor swaps over from the old windshield to the new, and the optical part of the sensor is bonded to the glass. Some of the aftermarket windshields have a really crappy optical sensor that just don't work well at all, which is why OEM BMW glass is the best choice for such equipped vehicles.

Does the sensor patch on the glass look intact/properly bonded?

Apologies for the delay.

The black surround (curved rectangular shape) looks ok and I can see a blue/purple band underneath and then a faint spot of the same.
The windscreen wipers are working but not as well as before so I have to manual overide too much and the lights are just useless now. They've gone from working perfectly to driving off in complete darkness and turning themselves off after 2 secs. Dangerous and aggravating!!

The windscreen 'experts' have now told me to go to the dealer and get it checked but all that costs money for which I should not pay and they might leave me high and dry with the bill! :dunno:
