tow hook question?
i broke the detachable hook off from the hitch....the tow hook broke in half while half is still in the hole? how can i get this out?
|
There are devices to do this called "easy outs". You will have to drill a hole into the broken piece, tap in an easy out, and back the broken piece out with a wrench. I have to ask, how did you break it?

the x got stuck in a foot deep mud awhile back, when it was raining hard...went to visit a friend in nh, the back road was literally dirt road...had to be towed out by a wrecker...the x angle and i guess it's not strong enough to be pull at an angle just snap the hook off while half of it is still lock in the thread.

Thanks, that sounds like an honest way to break a tow hook. Good luck with the easy out.

I agree on the good luck w/the Easy Out part...they are a pia. The key is to drill a well centered, slightly smaller pilot hole for the Easy Out to be screwed into...this is something a dlr or any privateer could probably do in 10 mins, at a price. I'm sure they've seen it before.

Another option, if the easy-out doesn't work, is to remove the rear bumper cover. Doing so will allow you to see what's left of the hook and possibly even allow you to get a set of vice grips on the stub to remove it.
If you look on the main page (http://xoutpost.com) and look in the BODY section you will see an article on how to install the hitch. Just follow the steps in the article on removing the bumper cover. Bottom line is there are only 2 bolts and 2 trim screws holding it on. :goodluck: |
thank you for all ure input ill let u know what happen.
