21 hours straight in the X

Yesterday I drove from Ferndale to Boise to drop my mom off for school. It's about 1200 miles round trip. The X was fully loaded. And I stacked a bunch of boxes on the top. She drove like a champ. I am very impressed with the reliability of my X.

Thanks for all the help maintaining her. We are getting close to 300,000...2 more months.

That's one long road trip. Glad you made it safely. Your X5 is probably one of the highest mileage examples and confidence inspiring. How has your transmission held up over the 300,000 miles?

So far the transmission is perfectly sound.....knock on wood. At 188,000 or so I did a partial fluid drain. Just draining the fluid and re-filling with Royal Purple. I did not drop the pan or change the filter. I was thinking it might be time to do the same. When drove to Boise I had the X pretty loaded down and with the boxes on top it felt like a wind sail. I was only getting 16.3 mpg. And we climbed alot of mountains. I crossed my mind that maybe the transmission would give out.

I think the key for the transmission last so long, is just drive the hell out of it. But thats just my opinion. I will rebuild it like SwissFrank did when it does give out.

If I did that trip, I would not be out of bed yet, let alone posting here...;)

My longest "drive" was 965 miles on my '94 Goldwing, back in '95;
we were trying to do a "Thou in a day". Came up short.
Congrats on pushing 300K!

I'm impressed!

I've got 145k on my '01 3.0.. have been hoping to have it still running solidly at 250k, so it's good to hear somebody else isn't having any issues at 300k!

BTW, has your radiator reservoir ever died? we had ours explode last year...

Nope, the radiator reservoir is still holding up.
