Need Help, this may be the one! (4.8is)

Even though I'm not new to X5World/XOutpost as a member I am new to the X5 (or at least hope to be.) I've been eyeballing the 4.6 and 4.8is for quite sometime and am finally ready to pull the trigger. So I wanted to get some of the members advice. What after market accessories are you guys seeing, and does anyone know what the button/lights to the left of the Nav might be? Questioned the dealer but have yet to hear back.

Originally I wanted silver but finding one with the alcantra leather sport seats seems to be a bit harder than I expected (of course I just started looking last firday so I may be being a bit impatient.) :D
Should I wait for the perfect one or am I being too picky when it comes down to seats, interior trim, load floor and exterior color? And on that note how do you guys like the sliding load floor, should it be a deal breaker or is it just a cool option?

Anyway here's a link to the 05 4.8is
2005 Used BMW X5 4.8is at EEE OF TYSONS Serving Vienna, VA, IID 5853535

I personlly think the asking price is a bit high when compared to the NADA clean retail value so I'd definitely be offering lower especially since I'd be traveling to get it. Thanks for your comments as I really love this forum, I don't even own an X yet and I've read almost every section.

Lookin4Trouble 08-25-2010 11:34 AM

I just bought my '06 X5 4.4i from EEE in Sterling - today's the 3rd day since I bought and I still havent gotten to drive besides the test drive because they've had it at the BMW dealership getting interior trim stuff and a window regulator fixed. Will post back if/when I _EVER_ get my damn vehicle...

My recommendation is you're spending a good amount of money so get what you want. Though I would categorize things as "must have", "nice to have", and "can live without".

hypnotiqdmg 08-25-2010 12:53 PM

Hang in there Lookin4Trouble I suppose the positive part is these repairs aren't coming out of your pocket...? Other than that how would you rate this dealers friendliness, service, and willingness to negotiate?

Thanks for the advice Sunny, I definitely agree with the "good amount of money." I guess the saying patience is a virtue would be applicable here. I'll take a step back from the excitement of getting a newer car (current is a 95 e36 (325i)) and start my list as adviced. :)

Lookin4Trouble 08-25-2010 01:15 PM

Positive is the repairs aren't coming out of my pocket, but negative is I'm 6 hours away from not being able to return the car due to buyer's remorse. If I don't have keys in hand by 5pm today, I'm calling the whole deal off.

I'd rate the individuals rather than the dealers - I ended up negotiating with the general manager of EEE because he wouldn't let his sales staff work the deal I was trying to push through. The sales staff was very friendly, willing to do what it took within their power, but if you're trying to negotiate a hard bargain, you'll deal with the GM, and he's pretty no-nonsense.

Sorry to hear Erik, is this your first X5 as well? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you getting those keys today. If you're as picky as me this is the Right X for you, so I hope the dealer gets their stuff together.
Looks like if I do decide to drive back home to VA for it I should definitely do some negotiation over the phone before even showing face. It seems a little over priced as it is and I know they didn't pay anywhere near that. Was in the midst of trying to get the "perfect one" in Colorado but someone beat me to the punch deposit wise. That one only had 44k miles, was just as clean and went for $28k.

Dom,

Dom,

Hey thanks Dom. 82 minutes and counting down until I let them know the deal is off. On the plus side, that'll open up a NICE '06 X5 4.4i for you, is a sweet vehicle but if I'm going to suffer delays like this trying to get simple work done, it's not worth the hassle to me...

Erik

//Edit - and yes, this'd be my first X5. Kinda an eclectic collection of vehicles for me, have gone through
81 Saab 9000 (hit by a semi at 999,991 miles)
83 Buick Regal (failed safety inspection, frame rust)
95 Lincoln Mark VIII (sold to my parents)
97 Firebird (hit by a drunk driver on Super Bowl Sunday 2002)
98 Volvo S70 (traded in on the next)
02 Grand Prix GTP (traded in, possibly cancelling, 27,762 miles on this)
My next will be a --- Either the X5 or an 05 Audi Allroad I'm drooling over - tidE\\

Ben2.0 08-25-2010 04:14 PM

:wow:
NO F***ing way! It is indeed a small world! Congrats Ben, glad someone on the forum got it. Ohh and welcome to the forum! I just started posting as well since I'm serious about getting one now. Before I just joined to look at everyones pretty pictures. :D Post pics soon, would love to see her!

Erik... What happened? Hopefully you have keys in hand as you read this. Impressive list of cars and some unfortunate ways to lose them. Are my eyes deceiving me or has it been a long day and I can't read numbers cause my eyes are numb... You were just short of a million miles...?

tomcat 08-25-2010 11:59 PM

Good luck. Looks good outside of the stick-on tuning inside (ACS on steering wheel and hamann on dash). Not a huge fan of the colored trim or alcantara upholstery, but that's just personal preference. The lights next to the nav screen are likely for a built-in radar detector.

can someone tell me where i can get that same bar for my x5 4.8. it makes the car look a bit nicer.

Thanks Scott, I noticed that as well and was wondering why, if any those "stickers" are there. Could the utility type bar on the front under the bumper possibly be ACS or hamann...? The colored trim I'm questioning as well, as I'm unsure if it WAS a factory option or possibly poorly painted. I may like it better than wood grain though... Any woes in regards to the alcantara leather or just not visually appealing for you?

Thanks to everyone thus far. I think shopping for an SAV that's rather rare in availability may be harder than I expected...

Hah yea I was about pissed off on that. I would've broken the million mark on that car on my way home from work that day. Nothing to be excited about tho, I bought the Saab from a friend's father who was driving it cross-country and up and down the eastern seaboard for years and years, I only put 12k or so on it.

The only keys I have in hand are for the loaner (at least they upgraded my loaner to an A4 2.0T, I was in a Galant yesterday http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/puke.gif

Just filed a BBB complaint, I've been more than flexible, and am trying to back out the entire deal, no harm, no foul. I've told them I'm willing to pay the DMV fees to reverse the title transfer, and walk away amicably, but they weren't willing to deal with me...

Yes, there is a chance the front bar is hamann or ACS, but the steering wheel is 100% stock. I have seen the colored trim before, so it might well be stock. The alcantara is mostly personal preference, it will grip you better. I've heard the alcantara steering wheels wear quicker than leather, but not sure about seats. That iS interior has a very sport look to it; if it were a track vehicle those choices wouldn't bother me, but with a luxury SUV (or SAV) I want my leather & wood. Just personal preference, to each his own.

Same here, that skid plate looks sick on 4.8iS. I've seen some posts with people requesting part # and possible fitment on 3.0 and the rest of the range except 4.8. Anybody with info please chip in!

Cheers

Well I took delivery of the X5 yesterday - no pics yet, not enough light when I got home.

I sat in the X5 that Dom linked to at the top of this thread, is quite nice. The interior is all stock, it has the Hamann package.

CONGRATS Erik, glad you were FINALLY able to take delivery. Thanks for the first hand sit in, I've contacted them and am awaiting answers to a couple of my questions, we'll see later today if I'll be making a trip back home to VA.

Lookin4Trouble 08-27-2010 07:48 AM

Dom, If you go and look at it I would advise looking through a manual real quick to make sure you know how to operate all the widgets. If anything doesnt work right you can use that as negotiation. Push the check system button on the gauges, look for when the last time it was serviced by BMW, the more green squares the better. Check for weights on each wheel alot of them may mean one is bent, these 20's i think would bend pretty easy. Check for both keys, manuals, etc. Good luck looks nice!

Quick note, having just dealt with them, EEE keeps extra keys and all user manuals and service documentation at their central office / vehicle storage facility. Definitely ASK about this though. I got my full maintenance record from my X5 on delivery, from 3 mile original purchase onward =) You can probably, if you call ahead, have them put the manual in the glovebox before you get there, so you can check all these things...

The rest of the above, definitely agree, use ALL the electronics (bring a couple CDs and a DVD with you, make sure the in-dash navigation reads the DVD, CD changer works, all the windows go up and down, panaroof slides smoothly all the way, etc...)

You guys have been great with the advice. Thanks Ben and Erik, both very good points and things I defintiely don't want to over look.

... oh yes, one thing I forgot to check due to my excitement and now I am so upset about it is "rain sensor". Make sure it works due to nature of replacing it, whole windshield needs to be replaced. That is only thing not working on mine as of now. Cannot wait to crack to be able to replace it. On the other note, got mine in exactly same combo: color, options, trim, seats etc. I strongly believe you are gonna like it.

Cheers
