Installed Magnaflow X-Pipe
http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/dunno.gifMembers, I just got the Mag X-pipe installed this afternoon. A little dissapointed because it sounds the same when i had the resonator. No throathy sound like what others have posted on YouTube. What do you think is the problem?

It sounds about the same at idle, but a bit better when on it. Also, most of the dep throaty ones you hear on youtube are the 04-06 4.4i/4.8is with the N62 valvetronic engine. That engine only has 0.1mm-0.3mm valve lift at idle which gives it that really deep throaty sound. The M62TU engine is non-valvetronic.
I too want a bit louder deeper throatier sound so am planning on replacing the resonator/x-pipe with a dual in dual out muffler from flowmaster or magnaflow, then removing the rear mufflers and throwing dual tips out each side. Maybe some small resonators in the back to kinda keep it in check a bit and make sure it is still smooth sounding. But I have some other stuff to do financially before I do this project. |
When you get on it the noise difference is there. Also remember this a BMW which has good noise isolation from the outside. I didn't think mine was even noticeable with just regular driving until I had a friend following me who has a 3.0. When we arrived at our destination his first comment was about how bad ass the exhaust sounded.
I have also had a cop comment saying I had a modified exhaust and a loose nut behind the wheel. :D |
I changed mine out on my 3.0i. At idle it sounds normal. When you get on the gas, thats where you notice the change in tone. Did your exhaust shop remove the 2 resonators and place the xpipe in replacement? Removing the 2 resonators alone should've made some difference.

Hey Charlie n Redline. Thanks for the reply. Actually, with 2003 4.6, there's only one resonator which is located under, between the driver's seat and the passenger seat. That's the one that was changed out to the x-pipe. The two mufflers at the tips are left original. It's ok. My next project is removing the two mufflers and straight piping each tips. should make a sound difference.
