headlight, high beam light flashing uncontrollably!

:yikes:I was driving home tonight and noticed again that my headlight and the highbeam light was flashing uncontrollably. I felt like a police SAV so people moved out of the way. Anyone got any ideas what causes the possessed X to act like that? It also happened on theo L.A. from Grand Canyon. I thought it was the bugs on the headlight and must be the sensors or something...

Were the highbeams switched on or off when this was happening?

it was set on automatic lighting...

Hmmm.... I wouldn't think it would try to light the high beams at all on auto. I wonder if a circuit is getting flaky contacts in either the stalk or LM? Maybe try using the stalk to turn high beams on and off a few times as well as hit flash to pass, then see if it still does it.

Also, by any chance has it been raining over there and did the drivers floorboard get wet at all? (going on a hunch due to one possibility)

Weasel, not raining at all! It's clear blue skies here in Los Angeles. The blinking doesn't happen often though. Occured two or three times within a month or so. Just don't want it to happen if I'm following a police car...

If it had to guess I'd say it is likely in either the flash to pass stalk or the light module... but it will be hard to diagnose enough to be certain.
