Dinan strut brace install

I know it's pretty sinple to install the dinan strut brace, but I was wondering what to torque the bolts to. Also anyone have a copy of the instructions or tips for install?

lemans4.8 09-03-2010 02:51 PM

Also, do the strut ends of the bar sit flush with the strut towers? There seems to be a little, pointed plastic tip that makes the strut end sit higher.

Also, was the dinan strut bar come with new nuts for the strut tower screws?

Thanks

Yes, my kit came all new with nuts etc... It sits flush as far as I saw.. I cant remember the torque in the garage somewhere if you cant find it Ill check for you... Only thing is you have to trim the back of the washer fluid... Goodluck

Thanks for the link! That helps out a bunch. Now, I need to get some flange nuts.

I also have aftermarket (arnott) struts and I think they have a longer "guide" on them so I may have to trim it.

Were you able to get the Dinan strut bar installed? What are your impressions?

Had to order flange nuts from Dinan.... they should be here very soon! If it's like my e46, there will be a very noticeable difference!

Any fitment issues?
Hows the quality of the brace?

Might get this since Dinan is pricey. Wish I could find one for my E38 that didn't cost $500.

No fitment issue at all. I have a similar bar (from eBay), but it's mostly for look, IMHO. As beefy as it may look, it's not very strong...just put your hand at the center of the bar and it will deflect (give way...albeit only slightly). The odd angles of the bar attachment design doesn't help with providing a sturdy support either.

IMHO, just save up for a Dinan bar if you want the benefit functionality of the cross brace. But if you still want it for looks, I'll be happy to part with mine...just make me an offer ;)

Even though I did the euro sway bar upgrade front and rear on my 7 (rear was custom mounted w/ custom made brackets) I'd still like to get a strut brace eventually for it. I haven't looked on www.bimmerforums.com in a while, but there are about 3-4 different brands out there and as far as I know only one or two are decent units w/o being in that $500 price range.

I would imagine even the $$Dinan$$ version would bend as well, only it'd bent front to rear vs the eBay one since they have a different layout. I noticed the $$Dinan$$ version also have a formed bend in it as is to work it behind the washer resevoir vs eBay's going overtop.

I'm quite happy w/ the handling of the X as is in stock form...I've got other rigs for canyon carving. I'm in the process of moving back to Seattle, so I will take you up on your offer if it's still available in a month or so. I'm heading down to Bimmerfest 2011 in Sacramento from May 11th-17th...how far is that from you?

I'm in Irvine, which is a good 8 hour drive from Sacramento. I thought Bimmerfest 2011 is held in the Rosebowl in Pasadena?

m5james 04-22-2011 05:15 PM

You're right, dont ask me what I was thinking. So how far is that from you?

dkl 04-23-2011 12:50 PM

Irvine is about an hour south of Pasadena.

m5james 05-19-2011 05:27 PM

Naturally I completely forgot to get in touch w/ you for the week I was in Pasadena. Do you still have this?

dkl 05-20-2011 02:34 AM

Hey...I haven't been on here in while. I still have the bar on the car and is a bit on the fence about whether I want to part with it. I'm too freaking lazy to take it off and ship the thing unless of course you're gonna make me an offer that I can't refuse ;)

OP...sorry for the thread jack :D

Does anyone here have a Dinan strut brace and Eibach sway bars installed? If so, how would you rate the driving experience with these two mods.

dpgx5 08-30-2011 03:30 PM

I have them both for a couple of years. Also lowered etc. I love the mods. Felt more with the Eibachs since i did them first. Strut probably does its thing but you cant really feel it. Just tightens the front flex up.
