OEM Head unit went crazy!
Hi folks,
My OEM widescreen nav unit went psycho yesterday. I started up the car the lcd screen lit up as usual everything seems normal, BUT, no music was coming through the speakers. I have been using a cassette tape to aux jack connected to my ipod sitting in cup holder (thought fm modulator would be worse soundquality). I click left jog dial off and then back on and then WAM...monitor starts flicking on and off, radio is on but i cant shut it off because all the buttons on head unit were not functioning. So Im thinking the cassette adaptor is the issue but the eject button wouldn't work. I turn the car on and off but issue remains...kept pushing eject button to no avail. I start driving and suddenly the monitor starts trying to eject itself by flipping down the screen continously, yet it couldn't fully complete the process and eject the tape and in between the screen flickering I can see a warning saying internal temperature over heat followed by some weird mechanical noise behind screen which didn't sound like the motor eject mechanism. I was late for work so i had to keep driving all the while this thing is flickering, ejecting back and forth and the radio wont shut up. Get to work and finally cassette comes out but unit still going mental, even when I turn off the car. I come back an hour later to the car hoping that the proper power down routine will cure the problem and voila it had things were back to normal, im not game to use the cassette though. Thought I would share this weird experience and wondering if there are any thoughts on the matter? I don't whether there are larger electrical gremlins at play here or what. cheers |
