Front windshield washer sprayers not working . . .
They make a noise as though they want to work but no fluid comes out. The reservoir is full, one nozzle kind of dribbles some fluid, the other does nothing. Don't know if it is the motor as in this thread
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-everyone.html as it definitely sounds as though it is cycling. Merely blocked perhaps and if so, how do I clean them out? Other ideas? Thanks all |
Anyone have anything???

you can try unhook the hose at the pump and see if any water squirt out when you use the washer if there is then you got a blockage. In my case I had gunk in the bottom of the reservoir. A new pump is cheap and easy to replace anyway.

Maybe your pump is going bad. It is a $20 part. I would recommend taking it out and looking at it. It is very simply to remove. Check for any blockage.

Thanks for the replies guys. So even though there definitely is the noise I associate with the pump cycling, thoughts are the pump is bad? Can someone link the part number?

The other thing to check is that the pipe hasn't become detached from the Nozzles. That has happened on all three of my Xs. When that happens you get only a trickle and most of the water ends up inside the engine compartment. Easily fixable with a cable tie!

Thanks for replies and thought I would share my resolution: turned out to be a blocked filter from the reservoir to the pump, had got gunked up. Simply had to remove the pump with the spigot attached, pull the rubber seal out to which the filter is attached from the reservoir, stick my thumb on the hole to stop the fluid spraying everywhere and then clean the filter with my other hand. Now works a charm . . .
[Truth be told, I dropped the filter into the engine bay once I had cleaned it, spilled all of the fluid from the reservoir looking for it, then had to drive other car to dealer to get new filter for $9 and new fluid for $5 so what would have been a quick, 5-minute, free repair turned into an hour and $15. Oh well, live and learn . . . ] |
