No heat from heater
 

Gee, are my woes just beginning with my new purchase?
Vehicle: 2003 3.0i dual climate control.
A/C works perfectly; very cold AND controllable temperature wise.

Today, outside temp 48 degree here in WV. Turned the heater up to 80 degree on both sides i.e. drivers and passenger. NO heat. I drove the car from home to work, about 2.0 miles, temp gauge in middle, but NO heat.:(
I would think with the temp gauge in the middle where it always rests when engine is warm, I would get heat.:dunno:

Floor is not wet anywhere. Coolant is good. No weird noises from heater or a/c fan etc. Just NO heat.

Where do I start? I did NOT have the recirculation button on. I had the comfort level set to split middle and lower vents.

Vehicle has 81K miles, looks to have been very well maintained. Yesterday I got tons of help on here regarding replacing the outer CV joint boot, which I hope to get done asap. Thanks in advance for any information.

Are you aware of the temperature dial between the two center vents on dashboard?

If the temp dial between the vents is turned to red and you still don't have heat it may be the heater control valves.

Chill and Weasel: temperature dial??????:dunno: I mean, sure, I just bought the car and this is the first time to use the heater.
Are you saying that simply turning up the temperature on the climate control unit where the temperature reading is, does not complete how I get heat?????????

I'll look today at lunch for a "red" dial between the vents?:dunno: This is really weird.:confused:

The previous posters were referring to the upper middle dash vents: there is a thumbwheel there that is scrollable
from red to blue; it's to allow cooler air on face, with heat on through floorboard vents...I don't think that's your problem
as I can bake our feet, and still get outside cooler air through the upper center dash vents, when I choose to.
I tend to agree with Weasel, as he has forgotten more about Xs than I will ever know. ;)

Fwiw, our '01 pumps "heat"/warmer air, pretty quickly, as do the heated
seats...

Like Weasel said, check the dial wheel in the middle to make it turned to red dots. When we just bough the X, my wife drove her and calling me that "there is no heat on this car".

I'm just dumb!
 

Boy, I "really" am dumb.:bustingup Everyone was right. I found the dial, rolled it to RED and the heat is pouring out. I just haven't taken time to really look everything over.
Sorry to bother everyone. I just was in a panic b/c no heat meant more problems.:rolleyes:

Although it would not be classified as scintillating reading, you ought to
crack the Owners Manual, and spend an hour leafing through it: a lot
of good info contained there in; if you don't have one, they are pasted
on this site, in easy to read pdf files.

MotorDavid: yep, I have the full OEM manual/packet.
The day I purchased the X5 my mother-in-law passed away while we were in SC visiting.
It seems that these past few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions and overlooks, as in "read the owners manual, Dan".

Being the very time I had to use the heater, I just simply did not notice the vent dial right in the middle of the dash.:wow:
But you can bet this weekend I'll be soaking up information from the owners manual and see what I can learn from it.:bustingup

This forum has been kind to me, even on simple issues like this one. The big help came from questions I had about four wheel alignment and changing an outer CV joint boot. There is no doubt you guys have saved me $$$$$$$$$$$ over a "stealer". For that sir, you have my deepest thanks.:zoom:
