Transmission oil cooler removal
Does anyone out there know how to remove the cooler from the two hoses that connect to the transmission??
That would be parts 2 and 11 in the following diagram. RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Oil-cooler pipe/heat exchanger It seems that there is a quick-coupler type of connection, but I don't want to break it trying to get it off. Any advice from the wizards out there? |

Mine leaked coolant for a bit after I replaced WP, so I replaced the heat exchanger as well which also leaked coolant for a bit then it stops leaking all together which makes me wonder . So make sure your heat exchanger is leaking, it's not common part to be stocked by dealer/online store so had to be special ordered. The tool is http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...on-weasel.html But I used open crescent wrench to pry the connectors carefully, well I know I won;t be doing this ever again probably so investing in that tool is kinda a waste. |
Yes, the transmission oil cooler is leaking drops of transmission oil.
I found this tool online: Assenmacher Specialty Tools ASM BMW5346 - BMW Power Steering &Transmission Oil Disconnect Tool The local BMW dealership WILL NOT SELL TOOLS!! |
I got it off. I wound up breaking the plastic covers and using a screwdriver...poor design.
