1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I just bought a AFE stage II intake, part one of the installation was pretty easy but when I went to install the second part I got a little bit stuck. In the instruction it saids about 1 vacumm hose but nothing about 2 or what to do with it. Before I do something ill regret I wanted to ask what excatly is this and what do I do with it.

i have the same problem.. but i went on the afe website and it turns out the stage 2 is only good for models made after 2004, which is not mine or yours. so in the end we paid an extra 200 bucks for nothin:(

I had the very same problem, even though it is listed that it will work on older models. My solution was to buy some extra vacuum line, a reducer, and a t-fitting. Got it to work just fine, though it just BARELY clears the fan. I'm planning on doing an e-fan in the spring anyway.

How do you all like the AFE intake? Sound is good? Looks clean under the hood? Any notice in performance?

I had the Stage 1 and upgraded. It is definitely louder and there's a noticeable performance difference.

I know I'm gonna catch Hell about this, but I didn't have the coin to buy the cheapest aFe intake. So, I went to the parts store and bought a K&N filter that would match the intake tube infront of the MAF meter. I then designed a small bracket and mounted it from the front of the K&N filter (drilled a small hole and bolted from inside) to the original hole to witch the original filter housing was bolted. And, yes, it's a little noisier and yes, there is a small noticeable difference in performance.
OT: I thought my transmission was a little slow in shifting from first to second gear. After that, it got better and better. As an afterthought, I thought I would change my plugs since she had more than 60K on the odometer. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! And just by changing the plugs. |
So far i only have the stage 1 part installed but i couldnt be more happy with it. it looks super sexy, sounds sexy, and added no joke like 20 hp.

Thanks for all the help I am going to get an intake (and chip) for sure, just not sure which one. Mit go AFE, as they are cheaper (and recommended from here) and look clean. As for a chip, leaning towards Dinan, however what ever I do go with will be done at the same time as the intake as I dont want to mess with the air fuel ratio.
Bruce - Your setup looks good. On my E36 M3 I di the same thing, it's just a ram intake. Make sure to hit the drilled holes up with some silicon. |
Thanks papasmurf I will do the same. Ive been thinking about how to do it but your idea seems to be the easiest
