Steering wheel shake and whole car shaking
 

I got 2001 X5 3.0, when I drove about 20-30 minutes, the steering wheel starting to shake very bad and the whole car start to shake about 10-15 minutes then the shake start idle and then back to normal. I jack up the car and check the suspension is seem fine but when I start to turn the front drive wheel, it seem lose a before it turn with the axel. I thinks it the wheel bearing? Can someone has any idea what might cause it. Does the wheel bearing make the car shaken?

I have a similar problem. I changed my control arms and ball joints but it still shakes like crazy. I pulled over and saw that my rotor was Hot!!! Come to realize I have a seized caliper that engages every once in a while but when it does it warps the crap out of the rotor. I am replacing the brakes this week will let you know the out come.

I agree with BigChips, check your calipers. One may be sticking. Typically, one wheel will be much hotter than the others. Be careful touching it.

I had the same issue, it was a stuck caliper on the front driver side. I got both front calipers rebuilt and replace the rotors and pads, the steering wheel shaking is gone. You can for sure tell that one wheel is hotter than the rest.

Unfortunetly my floor/seat still shakes even after 2 wheel balances.

Thanks you for reply back, yes, it's was the front right caliper was bad. I got one from the use car part (lifetime warranty as long you own the car) and replace the caliper and both front rotors,brake pads and bleak the brake lines. The noise is gone now.

While were on rotors i noticed then when i brake hardly the steering wheel shake.im thinking my rotors need to be replaced.any ideas on what the cause is?

Most likely one of the front brake caliper is going bad, causing caliper won't release after you step on the brake. You will see which side of caliper is brake by looking at the rotor and brake pad worn more than other side of the pad. I bought used caliper $100 from the junkyard and guarantee as long as I own the car with invoice.
