4.8 exhaust tips....

Just got the chromed 4.8is tips in today (from dealer) and I can't wait to have them installed or welded on my Eisenmann. They're beautiful not to mention nice and fat!

Cool! Make sure you also install the rubber trim around the tips. Chefwong noticed that on my 4.8i and then ordered.

There are a few on going threads about exhaust tips on 3.0i,3.0D ,it would be really helpful for all those interested if you could kindly post the length measurement of the 4.8is tip!I have the 4.8 silencers and my tips measure 133mm on the top length and I assume that your tips are the same.

Any chance of getting that tip length measurement?

Regarding them being available in Black chrome, unfortunately the dealer never heard of it and can only supply the 4.4 tips in Black chrome(as per oem) !Is there a part no.# so that we may order it from the U.States!

Of course I can measure the tip length as soon as I get home.
Hmmm when I ordered the tips I was asked if wanted chrome or black? I'll check with the dealer tomorrow again and let you know.:)

Breyton, Where the hell you been man?? Haven't heard from you in ages! I was in Toronto a couple of times but lost your number. Send me a PM with your contact info. Maybe we'll hook up when I'm in town again...

I recently had my 4.6is tips welded on as well. You have to be VERY careful to align the tips before they are welded on. There have been many complaints from people that got their's welded on and can not get them level.

I had a master welded install mine. Here's what I had to do...

1. Measure from the muffler to the end of the existing tip
2. OR hold the new tip where you want it and how far you want it sticking out
3. Mark the two existing exhaust pipes
4. Remove the exhaust off the vehicle
5. Cut the existing tips where you marked them
6. Temporarily pit the exhaust back in place
7. With the vehicle raised, hold the new tip exactly where you want it and level
8. Have the welder spot weld it just to hold it in place
9. Remove the exhaust again and weld the tip on properly
10. Do the same for the other side!

I took these pics with my phone...

What the *!#*!! And all along I thought you were the one who disappeared. Hey Arvi good to hear from you again. It was a summer from hell for me so it wouldn't have been good but now the coast is clear. YGPM!!

Hey thanks for those invalueable tips.

FeelGoodUnInc 11-29-2005 10:02 PM

King - wow that is one clean friggin weld job  if only i could of had a "master" of weld jobs do mine!

Breyton - when are you installing your tips? keep us updated and post some pix when all done!...and yes be extremely careful you find the right person to do this...my experience was a nightmare!

breytonX5 11-30-2005 12:26 PM

Houston, we have a problem!

Ok, the 4.8 tip opening won't fit over my fat Eisenmann tips so they need to be cut off completely, unlike the much smaller stock 4.4 tips. So the shop needs to do some fabrication, in other words they have to build a stainless steel extension to lengthen the 4.8 tips. Caution: this is no ordinary muffler shop, these guys are gurus of BMW modifications. They build race cars at their shops and custom exhausts are one of their specialties. I will keep you guys posted when it's done.

Oh here are the dimensions: L1: 5 1/8"; L2 3 7/8" W: 6.5" H: 3.5"

Lets hope hey don't charge you an arm and a leg...

King,

Worried about how to algn those tips, one of the reasons I have been hesitating about this. Are you by any chance from the Bay Area? I saw a silver 4.4i with 4.6is wheels, rear valance, and 4.6is tips over the Thanksgiving weekend, and oh man did it look clean....
