Changing valve cover gasket?

My search-fu is weak. Does anyone know of a write up for changing the valve cover gasket on a '01 3.0 l X5? Is it hard? Thanks.

I am having the same issue w/ my 02 3.0 but it looks as if I will do it cause I don't want to pay 250 to get it done. I may be able to get a schemtic of it

This procedure is like changing the plugs, in addition you have to remove the 2 ground wire bolts that go to the coils. Remove the spark plug rail(it's has 4 clips that need to be popped be careful) from valve cover and sensor wires for their clips. Unsnap the pvc hose In the front of valve cover and Pry the valve cover off gently. Remove gasket rings from the spark plugs or it might get stuck on the back of the valve cover. The old gasket is hard but it will come out in bits and pieces. I have pics but haven't put them up yet. Email me if you have any questions [email protected]

I think I might need to replace the valve gasket on my 05 4.4. It's a little bit more labor on the V8 I think. I am noticing oil on the bottom pan. Its not leaving puddles on the ground but I can definitely see it is accumulating on the belly pan of the car.

Do you guys think there is much urgency in taking care of this soon or just keep an eye on the oil level?

replace it or get it replaced for 250(shop quote)

I remembered it being a lot more than $250 when my shop quoted me. Mine is for the V8 and has the valvetronic system.

I just got a quote on mine. $530 to replace the valve cover gaskets. They also told me that the main seal is leaking too and that would be $1200! I'm trading mine in on a newer one.
