So silly me didn't have a wealth of time and opted to have a shop install my Cv boots, no problems before simply a maintenance thing to repair the ripped boots. Now there's two times that I've made left turns that I hear a clunk noise. Any ideas? I'm lifting the car tomorrow morning to look it over but they're staring me in the face and telling me maybe I need new axles ......not going back there again needless to say

How long did you drive it with the boots ripped?

mrBrigante 10-19-2010 06:22 PM

I would say a week from when I spotted the rip, I had no noise or anything simply cleaning the car I noticed a rip and ordered them same day

Was there grease flung all over? Or was it to soon to fling it everywhere?

One week driving with broke CV Boot is not bad for the axle at all. There are two possible outcomes:
1. When they removed the axle they unbolted all control arms/sway/strut bars and break rotors/pad (not sure if they removed them) and reassembed all back incorrectly. I would like to check this too.

2. I am thinking they damaged your axle's bearing while hamming it out for install new CV Boot.

When I changed my CV Boot, I checked bearing and make sure all ring/nut work correct before installing the axle back to the truck.
Let us know what's going on.

im lifting it tomorrow for inspection, im really thinking that they didnt assemble it correctly and maybe even damaged the bearing when installing, someone told me that there brakes werent installed tightly and that it was making noise as well, i dont get a lot of noise really every now and then when i make a left turn ill hear quick little clunks, this is crazy too since all i wanted was to be proactive and replace the ripped boot

have been checking over and over, and nothing, have discovered that it only makes the clunking noise when i hit the gas its always on left turns while hitting the gas, just dont know.

Try this:dunno:

double check that the brakes are installed correctly, since all that has to come off to get to the CV boot. Check simple stuff first.

Also - one thing I may re-do anyway is the lower control arm bolt - tighten that only when the car is sitting on the suspension. Otherwise it pre-loads the bushing. Simply loosen it up and then re-tighten all with the car sitting normally, tires on, etc. Even if that isn't it you know that was done properly which may well have been overlooked by a sloppy shop.

im really getting the feeling of sloppy work because i never had this problem until i went to them to have the cv boots replaced. im gunna do this tomorrow morning
