50-State/California Certified??

Super excited to pull the trigger on a 2005 X5 4.8is shortly and seeking verification that these things are 50-State/CA Certified. I would think so but the vehicle isn't near by for me to check.

thanks!!

I would help if I could but I don't really understand what you're asking? State certified? Are you asking about CPO or EPA or something else? I hope you find the help you need. And I'm excited for you as well, Cheers!

its EPA .. SMOG related. There should be a sticker inside the engine compartment. It should say something about 49 states or US (50 state). I'm thinking all fairly new BMW's are US compliant. At any rate .. I will check for myself as I will be examining the vehicle in the AM. Then a nice 600 mile get acquainted ride back home!

If you read the link that quicksilver posted in his reply you will notice on the California DMV website it says new vehicles, with the word "new" in bold print. So it's looks like they are talking about buying a new vehicle out of state, not a used one.

I am fairly certain all BMW's at least in the last 10 years or so, maybe longer, carry the 50 state certification. I purchased a 2003 4.6is that had never been west of the mississippi and it had the proper sticker in the engine bay. Good thing too, because it never even dawned on me to check.

As soon as I saw the vehicle I promptly FORGOT about the 49/50 state thing. Now that its time to register the thing in CA.. I found the sticker on the right side of the engine bay and the vehicle is (THANKFULLY) indeed 50 state compliant.

I'll get some pics and post in the near future. Nice to see an active owner forum for these things!
