What controls the "Check Coolant Level" warning light
 

Question, what controls the "check coolant level" warning light..? :dunno:

I replaced the thermostat, waterpump, belts etc on my '04 X 3.0, 3 weeks ago and everthing has been working perfectly since.
Over the weekend the check coolant level light came on after a routine fluid level check and it won't go off. The coolant level is perfect cold and hot and I get a good flow via the weep hole.

I had to disconnect a sensor on the thermostat and one on the lower radiator hose when i did the job but they are plugged in and have been checked. I don't know if the sensor in the new thermostat controls this light in which case i may have a bad new stat??

Help and suggestions appreciated.......

There is a sensor on the bottom of the coolant expansion tank
If you didn't bleed the system using the bleed valve
on the top of the reservoir then you may be low coolant.

If i'm correct after you replace coolant parts you must get
the system hot with the heater on and the bleed valve open
then check coolant level until the system has circulated the
coolant. Check your coolant level and keep adding if you
need to until the expansion tank is at the required level.

Thanks for the info, while the tank was bleed properly, and the coolant level was correct, the link to post 3 and its pictures solved the problem. :thumbup:
I stated in my post that I disconnected 2 sensor wires, thermo sensor and the lower radiatior.... but, I actually pulled 3 sensor wires and I never put the wire back on on to the coolant level sensor on the bottom of the expansion tank, it had fallen down off to the wheelwell and was completely out of sight. The pictures in that post clearly illustrated my ...oop's.

Why it took 3 weeks for the light low level light to come on is a mystery but with the sensor plugged in, the lights gone....
