Tire Question PLEASE READ
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone,,
I have on the rear of my 06 X54.8is Michelin dimaris 315 35 R20 106w. They were put on at the beginning of this summer brand new and now the rears are Bald on the inside..of course my Camber may be a little extreme but these tires have not seen a lot of KMs (10000) tops......this wear seems extreme and replacement for two rears same make is $1100 plus tax and install.... Anyone have any suggestions, expeirences or reccommedations for a place to buy tires? |
a good alignment shop can change the rear camber. our 19 inch rear tires now wear 100% evenly across.
|
looks as though your X5 is lowered so the camber should be adjusted to suit ride height .
|
Ya they dropped it at the dealership via the airbags so your right a wheel alignment may be in order....that chewed my tires!

Toe in/out will wear tires faster (much) than neggy camber. So, the alignment should correct that. Also suggest regular front to back rotation.

My '06 4.8 has a staggered setup and you can't do a front to rear rotation if you have the same size factory wheels, unfortunately. I replaced my Michelins with Bridgestones and they have worked out great. The ride is a little smoother, and the overall performance is not any noticeably different. They cost half as much too. I got only about 16Kmi out of the Michelins, and the Bridgestones are probably going to last at least that long, or better from the looks of it so far.

Yep, good point. Rotating staggered wheels would look pretty funny and handle like poo... |

he said he hadn't noticed the difference in handling, so on his vehicle he would not notice a rotation...
|
Thanks guys...looking closer too I may have my tires overinglated a little bit too causing the centers to wear faster...I am going with a wheel aligment before the winters go on...and yes wheels are not only rotational but different size front and rear so they are stuck where they are at each corner..I will also look into bridgestones....you lucky americans get tires sooo cheap!

Have a look at Tirerack.com

You can have them back out the neg camber in the rear as much as possible at the sacrifice of handling. Since you lowered your X via the airbags only (like me) then you already compromised handling. Recently switched wheel and tire combination to the X6M 10 & 11 inch wheels with Vreds. Found the passenger rear could not get adjusted to within spec. Visual check looks good but will probably have to disassemble to find the culprit (probably a bad control arm or some bushings). Good Luck. |

sorry i meant overinflated in the last post>>>I will updat you withthe specs twins poppa. is that pic in our post with the X6Ms?

No those were my M5 reps. They were only 20x9.5 but I still prefer their look over ANY wheel.
However, I succumbed to a change of wheels because I wanted wider tires. Those M5 reps only allowed me to put 295s in the rear and that's not recommended. Next time I will probably go with another tire than vreds - only because they are slimmer relative to other tires. I just wanted to try them for the hell of it. If I could put 12" rims on the back for less than thousands of dollars I would! I'll try to get pics up of the X with the new wheels. This is not my X but same wheels: http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/a...g/IMG_0490.jpg |
Kerr, love the quad exhaust tips on your "is".

Hey Thanks FSETH,
I Put My my 20" Pirelli scorpions with my factory rims on for the winter and due to the negative camber close up of my summers shows there screwed beyond....in only 7000kMs!!! |
