Battery Problem?Help.
My 2003/MAR X5 doesn t work after I have a 2 month long trip . Then the dealer replace a new battery under warranty on Sep1. 2weeks ago it does t work again, i jump the battery and send it to dealer. They have a drain-test for the electrical over 30 hours and said the water-pump drain the battery abnormally and fix it. I get it back after 2 days it stuck again , they said the battery may be damage after the water-pump long-terms drain. Then they change a new battery again. When i back to home. i charged it with the oem-charger over 15 hours. It still red light on. How long charge for a new battery ? I m so scare back to dealer . Guys , do u have any suggest ? I drive my X everyday. The charger is brand new and charged next BMW succesful.

that's bizarre. BMW battery batches can fail. sometimes it takes a new battery a day or two to reach full current.
shouldn't need a charge if you drive it every day. i wasn't aware the water pump would do that as it is 'mechanical' and not electrical. something is not right with that explanation. can you post a copy of the work order they gave you to tell us what they did? thanks |
yeah. the water pump statement is way off base and sounds like the idiots there don't know what they are talking about. There were a couple TSBs for abnormal battery drain for the business CD. Alternator is another thing to check since you're going through multiple batteries.
I suggest bringing to another dealer. Quote:

Well, there is a mechanical water pump, and there is the electric water pump. Parts are listed online for the 3.0 X5; this is a booster pump, mounted on the firewall, intended to increase flow through the heater core. It is the type of device that could cause a current draw if it malfunctioned.
You may still want to take it to another dealer, but realize that the one you are working with may actually be right. He knew there was an electric water pump. I didn't, but I found the part in 30 seconds on the web. It would be normal for the dealer to check the full charging system during the repair they did, you can ask them if they did so. The red light you see, is it on your charger or the dash? If it is on the dash, then yes, contact the dealer. If it is just the light on the charger, run the vehicle for awhile and see how it works. |
Cannot start again . :dunno: :dunno:
It works after jumped it.  |
