transfer case and diff.
 

I am having issues with my 02 3.0 x5 w/177k, i hear a clanking noise from the undrside. I thought it was my axles but thats not the issue. i cant tell if its coming from the transfer case or the diff. has anyone had this issue.

Having just been through that myself, I can assure you that there are a number of threads here about transfer case or driveshaft noises...

Is the noise just mainly at takeoff or under power, or is it constant, or is it when you corner one way or the other?

On take off and under power. The noise is constant clanking sound ( spoon rattling in a can) I was attempting to Change my axle(driver side) and turning the axle nut, I heard the noise again but it sounded like it was coming from the the drive shaft to transfer case. I have to take it to the dealer tomorrow so I hope and pray dearly thats it's something simple.
