help!! check brake lining warning messsge

hi guys
its -25 outside today, and i left my 2003 4.6is outside for 8 hrs during work, when i started the car, the "check brake lining" message appear, and the red "!" , brake warning sign is on.....not sure whats going on, brakes are all good, i reseted it, and will wait until tomorrow to see what happens;
do u guys think its on because of the cold weather?
thanks

The brake lining warning sensor depends on continuity in the sensor circuit to stay off. If the circuit is interrupted it comes on, whether it is due to the pads being thin, or the connector to the sensor being loose and not making a good connection. Not likely due to cold weather in my experience, unless the wire is damaged. Have you determined which sensor it is?

i dont know which sensor yet, but today, the red "!" lighted on once, then i reseted it again, and parked for a few hrs, and then drove home, the light hasnt come on since...not sure if its the brakes or not....i guess will have to wait for a few more tries..

Sorry to revive this thread but I'm having problems reseting my alarm after i have replaced the front and rear pads. I left the ignition key in ON position for 5 mins and the alarm still hasn't reset. What am I missing?

Did you replace the sensors? If so, then you may have a bad connnection where the sensor connects, or a bad sensor. If you didn't replace the sensors, start there.

my rear sensor is not connecting to the car right now....becasue the sockets are brokens...wires hanging out from the car, and the sensor is jsut sitting there...however...i got the light came one once, i reseted it, and never came on again....not sure why that is happening..

Thanks for that, so should there be no resistance across the two wires?
Will check it with a multimeter this afternoon. Apologies for Hi-jacking this thread, hopefully we'll both learn from this.:D

Sometimes on E39,E46 and E53 the warning light doesnt come out even after replacing both pad wear sensors with OEM ones.Try this:turn the igniton on,remove the brake fluid reservoir cap,lift it a inch high(simulate low brake fluid) for a second or 2,replace the cap and the light should go off.

the check brake lining message came on today again, i might need to buy the socket that connects to the sensor and make them connect.....
anyone has done that before?
