Opinion on wheels??
7 Attachment(s)
Hi All
Ive had my e53 for a few months now. When i brought it i removed the 19"s and fitted a set of black 22"s x 10 all round. Today i refitted the repainted stock 19"s as i have come to the conclusion that the 22"s make the car look older...... Whats everyone elses opinion??? |
I can see where you're going a little bit. I think the 22"s would have looked better in silver but you'd probably still have the same problem.

Crombo97,
Have you fitted the silver grill back as well? For me the car looks much better, more agressive with black grills. As for the wheels ,I go with the previous post, the 22" will look better in silver or light grey colour but not too dark. As it is,I still prefer the 22s with black grilll. What tyres are you running? |
Well.... Perhaps it's mostly a geographical bias, but if someone in middle Missouri was driving an X that looked like yours with the black 22's, everyone would automtically think "drug dealer".

I think the 19-inch originals are fine, but boooooooring compared to the 22:s. But to each his own...

19 ers all the way.. IMO 21" MAX
18- Only nice for winter 19- Under avg, but workable 20- The Goldylocks zone 21- Pressing the limit but do-able 22+ Not feelin it. |
Those are arguably the best looking OEM 19's BMW put out, and they look great. I have no problems with 22" wheels, but those in particular just don't look right on the vehicle. I forgot who but someone on the forum with a black X5 put on a set of 22" replica of some OEM wheels and it looked simply awesome.

To each his own, but I would prefer an older - but good looking - car to a newer - but ugly, mainstream - look everyday of the week. |
22"s aren't my cup o' tea, but the right set (and offset) is the key. IMHO, dished wheels have been way over done. A nice set of non-lipped concave 22"s would look good... (again, IMHO). Check out ADV.1's "Deep Concave" section.
disturbedk24 has my personal favorite wheels for the X5, Volk TE-37's. They are lightweight, strong, and absolutely beautiful. Happy hunting! :) |
the 19's. The 22's look like they belong on a Toyota 4 runner or Chevy taho
|
Thanks for the opinions guys
I think i might get the 22"s painted silver/grey and see how that looks. and powers1 i have refited the black grills now and yes they do look better:D like the wheels i keep changing my mind. I just need to find black bonnet vents to replace the titainium ones:cool: |
I think these 22" wheels look terrible. The 19" wheels look great. I see the poll is currently running 88% in favour of ditching the 22s.
|
I'm just wondering where you find good enough roads in NSW where 22s work okay?

I live in Stockholm, where it right now is wintern and freezing cold -10 celcius (14 fahrenheit) so my own X5 has winter wheels now - 21 inch BBS RX2:s - very similar to this one (although my car is Carbonschwarz, a kind of blueish black metallic) http://www.streetdreams.org/photo/da...31bbs---x5.jpg But I also have two sets of 22 inch summer wheels, one set is very similar to the ones that this poll is about. And I'm a bit provoked by the fact that nobody seems to think they look good, hehe... That's why I might be a bit in favor of the 22:s, even though the others are arguably the best looking OEM 19:s that BMW have put out. My second set of 22:s are BMW Style 168, like this one: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3373865/2004-bmw-x5 I bought them last week, and judging by the outcome of this poll, these look better when spring arrives here in April. :p: I still think the 19:s with titanium grills have too little attitude. The X5 is a powerful "Hulk" car, not a soccer mom car. Anyway, to the thread creator: good luck whatever your choice becomes! And to all you others: have a nice day! |

Just thought I would make more comments about the 22s!I am sure that they look even better in real life. You having a deep dish makes the wheel look smaller and therefore not OTT for the X5.I think it looks just right! Also being a 5 spoke wheel its not too out of character for the car.You have a polished lip as well,so if you had the wheels sprayed silver it would make them just right and they would also be more in line asthetically with your aluminiun RBs. Your 22s at the moment still look good as they look colour coded to the car and way better than some other 22s around! They definitely dont have "drug dealer or "horrible" look but everyone is entitled to their opinion :) The oem 19s maybe nice ,,but they look boring next to the 22s:D |
Ah, that's the ones I was trying to remember... the BMW style 168 reps in 22" look amazing! And this link is actually to the xoutpost member's cardomain page ironically enough.

22's look way too small......you need to fill up that wheel well more ;)
|
Hey,
Those 22" replicas are indeed very difficult if not impossible to find new now. I get tons of emails and PM's asking me where to get them. I bought them from lakeshorewheels.com 2 years ago. They have not been listed on that site for at least a year now. I feel very lucky I snatched up a set when they were still available! The 19's you have look sharp as hell, especially black with the euro headlights. |
i have the same set-up with the 19 inch rims but the car is lemans blue
i wonder how it would look lowered a little, maybe get a second pair of 10 inch rear rims and stick them on the front, and then space out the rears a little. good thing about that would be the ability to rotate your tyres for better wear what do you think??? |
