LURCH ... ????
 

Dear forum members,

having an X5 3.0d built 2002 and not beeing so much happy about what happens when I really have to give her a kick - I always feel too much delay before power comes from my pedal to the wheels. But OK when the power arrives ... WOW then everything is fine.

What is that lurch which is sometimes discussed here. I still have some months of warranty on her, even with that age, so maybe some input may save me a self paied tranny rebuild ..........

Any input would be much appreciated

Have you reset the throttle adaptation (Position 2, hold accelerator to floor 30 sec, then off position then turn on)? Have you had the transmission software update? Try those.

I did that after I have read through this forum. Did not change a lot - you know that is something you should feel - with 2,5 tons pulling against what you want to have :rolleyes:

NO !! What is that? A software upgrade for the X ?

Apparently there is a transmission software update. i am taking mine in next week to see if it helps the lurch I have.

I think the delay you are experiencing on power delivery is just normal Turbo lag. The 3.0D generates plenty tourque, but it takes a little while to arrive. I sometimes get caught out with mine when I floor it from standstill to pull out into traffic and sometimes it feels like the engine has fallen asleep for a moment... then bang, the turbo gets up to speed and the massive tourque arrives and off you go.

The transmission slam that is talked about on the forum is mostly the thump you can get when the tranny shifts into first gear too agressively when you come to a slow stop. This can be improvd by resetting the adaption (as has been mentioned) but If you do not change your driving style it will likely re-learn the same habit. I found that re-setting my adaption and then driving very gently for a while keeps it at bay.

with petrol engines, hesitating might be due to bad MAF sensor i think... i don't know about deisel people... we have no diesel around here...
