Double Din upgrade recomendations

It has been a few years, but I am back. Sold my '01 X5 three years ago and just replaced it with an '06 yesterday. I have a nice Kenwood 8120 that I would like to install and looking for suggestions. Are there any Bezel kits out there for this kind of install and is there a way to keep steering wheel controls? Also will I lose the computer that also shows in the dash (mpg, avg. speed, trip, time, date, etc...)

I think the OP means double din fascia kit ,not headunits, since he already has one!
Lots of fascia kits on Ebay bmw x5double din items - Get great deals on eBay Motors, Electronics items on eBay.com!

I believe its possible to get a cable to keep the S/W controls.

You should be able to keep you steering wheel controls with this
KENWOOD - BMW Mini X3 X5 Steering Wheel Stalk Adaptor - eBay (item 350403134614 end time Dec-10-10 03:02:32 PST)

If you want to keep enough of your radio bracket to put the original radio back in the dash then try the Metra bezel. It is usually around $20. Do an online search for Metra 95-9308B.

The only catch here is that your screen will not be spaced evenly vertically as the top of your radio bracket will still be in place. The Dynavin fits the same way.

Yes. Kinda pricey though. You can usually find them on ebay. You can also ask somebody to make a custom one for you.

Most of the units will retain the steering wheel controls. In worst case scenario, you will have to buy an adapter to translate the buttons into correct signals for your after market headunit.

No aftermarket headunit is capable of reading the ibus and translate the telegrams into valid information to be displayed on your headunit. So, yes, you will loose the information and functions of the OEM headunit (including DSP, aux heating, etc). However, some info will still be displayed on the OBC, under the odometer.
The only way to have a headunit that reads the ibus would be carpc.

I have a bezel in the for sale section. I paid $300 for it because I wanted something that looked factory and not plastic. I had a kenwood 9140 mounted. Send me an offer if interested.
