Well...Today I've become the proud owner of a 2001 X5 4.4i

I've been doing some research before I took the plunge and this forum has been one of the most informative that I have come across. Ya'lls tips and X5 'challenges' aided me with picking with what I feel was the right truck for my needs (and wants).

Today I committed to and bought an 01 X5 4.4i...It has all its records since day one and is in great shape. The packages on it are the sport, premium and climate. (Not that I need the climate here in SC). The only thing I wish was that the previous owner did not change the original 19" Style 63 rims out, but the ones on it now (17") have new tires so I can wait. I'll be driving it mostly for work and it is replacing my 04 Land Rover Discovery. I will miss the Discovery, but not the fuel mileage and parts expense.

I look forward to the ownership experience, researching and posting some here on the board. If this truck is even half as good as what my 2000 Z3 has been, I know I'm going to be pleased.

Here is a picture snapped a few days ago when I test drove it...

Congrats on picking up the new X! Looks like you found one that somebody has taken good care of. Hope yours is as good to you as my '01 4.4 has been to me.
All of us here have certainly had our moments of frustration with our X's, but more often than not they've given us many miles of safe, fun, and reliable driving.
Hope that your ownership experience is a great one and look forward to seeing and reading about it here on the forums!

Looks very similar to mine! Only you have the sports package and 17"s. Consider it a good thing you bought it with the 17"s, it makes it easier to justify buying the style 87s. :D

Nice X! I tend to be in. The Greenville area often so maybe ill see it in person sometime. You guys have the coolest downtgown area in Greenville. Congrats on the V8.-Ben

Very Nice! I'm sure you will grow to love your X, just as quick as we did with ours.

Congrats and enjoy the ride!

I just pulled off my 19" style 63s, now I'm driving on the same 17" rims as you but with winter tires. The 17s will give you a smoother ride but 19s will turn on a dime compared to what you have now. Start burning rubber...

Congradulations. Just bought our first too. Hopefullly we can spend the next year recounting what reliable cars we bought.
I love driving ours. First time I've ever driven, yet alone owned, an "up market" type car.
Cheers

Wow! Thanks to each of you for the welcome!
Coming from a history of British roadsters and trucks, I enjoy turning a wrench and 'upgrading' on my vehicles. I know I'll be lurking around here getting some good tips on maintenance and upkeep and hopefully adding some myself.

Catching up in person would be great....Yep, Greenville Downtown is really nice. This place has come a long way from what it was in the 80's and early 90's. Back then the only reason anyone came downtown was for some 'lovin' or some afterhours pharmaceutical needs. It is really quite the show piece now! I'm originally from downtown Charleston and call me crazy, but...Greenville seems (at least to me) so much more.

Oh I meant to ask...Is there an X specific club? Also, do you all know if there are any "gatherings of the X's" by chance? I'm sure you all know the Z cars have their own events, gatherings and a club dedicated to them. Just curious.

Again, thanks for the welcome! And I hope to give back to the forum with some new experiences and help in maintaining/upgrading these awesome trucks.
