Don't know about you guys but I have friends that like to bust balls about "mr fancy car". Can't have any rattles when they're in the car or I never stop hearing about it.

Same problem here, the solution is to point out everything that makes your X5 better when you're riding in their cars.

are the two ledges of the liftgate supposed to rest on those two bump stops when closed? i can sort of see in between the panels when it was closed, and there was a good 1/4"+ of room between the bump stop and the ledges on the liftgate. i tweaked both sides so now the liftgate does rest on them, but the sides are a little bit off so the passenger side is out a bit more. Thanks!

Yes they are. There is supposed to be some presure when closing the gate. I adjusted mine in the summer and now that it is cold out, the rattles came back with a vengance. I will make time tonight to fix them; Merry Christmas Honey, your car is now rattle free :D. I will also take a look at the centre latch, thank you very much for that bit of information.

Will changing the rubber seals around the door help enough to justify the cost? I condition them with zymol seal conditioner, is that enough?

thanks for the info. I can confirm that my rattles for the most part are gone after adjusting the bump stops. later this weekend I will adjust the tailgate too and hopefully that will cure all the noise back there.

I can confirm that following a cold winter and a few more months driving I still have absolutely zero rattles from my tailgate having replaced the little striker plate as I detailed before.
Hope this helps some more people as there are now another few on the UK forum who have found the little plastic cap missing...
