Please excuse the ridiculous question - 2004 X5 4.4 - doing my first out of maintenance oil/filter change and I'm pretty good around cars. That being said - I can't get the friggin' oil fill cap off the oil fill portal in the engine compartment!! I've never seen it off before so I have no idea if it is a friction fit or a mechanical fit. I'm afraid to apply any force to it and either snap it off or damage something else. If anyone could please let me know what kind of force I should look forward to applying and how the cap is attached. Thanks in advance! John

its a screw cap, even tho it doens't look like it.

Turn it counterclockwise. If you can't get a good purchase on it, use a rag for more grip.

Agree w/above and, put some downward pressure on cap, while turning lefty...
Mine gets glued on regularly.

It is a 36mm "nut" on the top of it if you can't get it off by hand.

It really is one of those nights, and after one of those days...... supposed to be going out for drinks tonight with friends, but I'm gonna crash out early instead. Energy is wasted on the youth. (I feel wrong saying that while under 30, but I'm feeling old for 29)
