check engine light issue
Hi, I have a 02 X5 3.0 with 73k on it. The check engine light was on while I was driving. I had the codes scanned as below:
P0313 misfire detected with low fuel p0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected p0174 system too lean bank 2 p0171 system too lean bank 1 p1348 cylinder #5 fuel cut off I did a search and it looks like a vaccum leak problem. I checked the intake boots and they are fine. Now, I'm thinking about the DISA Valve. Is there any specific noise if it's broken? Anyway, this is my symptom of the problem. 1. little shaky when idle. 2. car stalls when it moves forward/backward slowly without stepping on the gas (ex. back out from a parking spot) 3. when it starts in them morning, the engine sounds like on and off (when it's off, it sounds like it's going to stall but it'll back up) Otherwise, it drives fine and smooth. Do you guys have the similiar problem before? Do you think the problem will get worse if I don't fix it soon? Thanks for your input. |
There are YouTube videos on how to check your DISA valve. I recently had a customer w/ a slew of codes similar to yours, and it ended up being a hose that runs from the oil dipstick tube to the bottom side of the intake manifold...simply $13 fix. Take those P codes you have and start using the search button.

any idea?

Do what I said on my reply...there is hardly anything you or anyone else hasn't experienced already that hasn't been documented before, so use the search button and go from there. You'll find your answers a lot quicker searching yourself instead of posting and then hoping we'll do your homework for you after waiting a week.

P0300 random/multiple cylinder misfire detected
P1348 Misfire During Start Cylinder 4 P1344 Misfire During Start Cylinder 2 P1352 Misfire During Start Cylinder 6 P1347 Misfire Cylinder 3 With Fuel Cut-off P0305 cylinder 5 misfire P1083 Fuel Control Mixture Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 1) P1085 Fuel Control Mixture Lean (Bank 2 Sensor 1) P0174 system too lean bank 2 P0171 system too lean bank 1 If you have these errors, pull your Disa valve and check it. Mine went after 115k. Just do a youtube search for disa valve removal, simple 2 screws. |
update:
I brought the it to the dealer for a smoke test. Found out there is a leak on the crankcase vent valve hose and a leak on the DISA (not broken). Replaced all the hoses and pipes to and from the crankcase vent valve and DISA. Everything works fine now. |
I had a customers 330xi who had the same DISA Valve problem...idle didnt change when spraying carb cleaner on it, but the smoke test make it plume like crazy. Even after attempting using a liquid gasket sealer, it didn't help at all.
