'06 4.8is suspension
My 4.8is started sagging at the front driver side after sitting over night, every night. It would correct itself after opening the door so I let it go for a few weeks. Finally last week after leaving the office many co-workers were making fun since it looked like a low rider. When I opened the door this time I heard a constant hissing for the bag trying to hold air.
I brought it to my dealer, Rasmussen BMW, in Portland and thought it was going to cost a couple grand. I forgot I had a CPO and was pleasantly surprised when I was told both front airbags were replaced under warranty and would only cost me $50. I can live with that! Now how often do I need to concern myself with having to replace these bags? My 4.8is has 57k miles and that doesn't seem like I got a lot of life out of the original bags. Thanks in advance. David |
I have a 2004 and the same one went bad on mine at about the same mileage - I think around 63K.
I think you won't have to worry about the air struts again unless you plan on keeping the X another 100K. Its hard to say without solid data and different variables of how the X was treated/maintained. |
Both bags went on my '05 around 50k

Your lucky you got it fixed under CPO. Most of us were told that it was wear and tear. Had mine done around 60k.

anybody ever have compressor issues? i get a bad rattling sound on startup, or if i try to raise the suspension. my guess is its the compressor. goes away if i lower it or if it fills up (seems like it anyway..)...

Dave thank god you had a CPO warranty!
I'm also getting a 4.8is,you'll see it soon enough at Starbucks lol. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year! |

I have an 05 and have hard a few air suspension woes. Of course the dealer tried to get out of paying for them but ended up admitting the CPO warranty covered the front right strut. They replaced the strut and still had issues. They had the car for 3 weeks and finally found the problem, one of the fittings had a pin hole leak. They R&R free of charge.
I had the left front strut replaced under the original warranty at 40k, and the right front was replaced at 63k and the leaking fitting shortly thereafter. I am currently at 84k and all is well. If I experience another suspension problem, I will most likley throw a set of KW's in her. |
