They really make a difference. Thanks villajoe for being a great seller.

I would get an alignment now. If you plan on leaving the rims and the SPACERS I would seriously recommend a fresh alignment.

jst2878 01-04-2011 01:59 AM

Looks awesome. I can't wait for SPACERS next year

Should I get it done at a stealership? I'd rather not pay lots of $$. Or is there somewhere you recommend going?

Yes X5X. A 3.0d. No exhausts visible ...... until it becomes warmer - then you will see some :D

Cisc0 01-04-2011 11:15 AM

Naz ride is looking good, but it would look better with some rear 4.6is wheel flares and you will save some moolah on paint damage due to splashing.

jst2878 01-04-2011 12:57 PM

V&S. They are in bayside and have a special of 99.99 for an alignment on the hunter machine. They do exceptional work. Next year I'm raising my x a 1/2 inch, get SPACERS, and head right over for another alignment.

SlowRider 01-04-2011 08:35 PM

Nice Naz, another reason to be jealous of your X5!

princemoe2m 01-05-2011 03:33 AM

great choice with the 87's
u gonna luv ur X even more now lol...btw r these staggered?
and did u like the results before & after puttin the rear spacers?

thanx in advance.

Well since they are winter wheels, they are not staggered. I actually feel a significant difference in handling (maybe it's just in my head). I love them though. If i had staggered wheels I'd only put spacers on if i had the fender flares--otherwise the wheels would stick out too far IMO.

wallyx5 01-05-2011 09:46 AM

Nice work Naz. To me spacers make all the difference.

m5james 01-05-2011 04:57 PM

I need to get around to putting spacers on my X as well. I've got the same wheels as Helmuth but no fender flares. I also see people and their random measurements, but unless I'm just a complete idiot (that statement was rhetorical ;) ), I'm still uncertain about why my measurements seem so much larger than everyone else's I've read w/ different wheels.

Naz24 01-05-2011 05:35 PM

heres a question.. do spacers effect tire wear at all? i feel like it would shave the inside quicker bc of the wider stance

In the rear, no. They accelerate suspension and wheel bearing wear, but I don't think you would see any change in tire wear, given correct alignment.

In the front, in addition to the additional loads on the suspension and wheel bearings, you are changing the steering geometry and scrub radius, so you could see additional tire wear there.

Jordo 01-09-2011 10:22 PM

Question about your wheel spacer. I have that same wheels as you but do not have ant spacers. But I think mine stick out more then yours. Camera angle? Is there different versions of these wheels?

Well mine are non staggered bc it's a winter set up. So all four wheels are the same size as your fronts. The staggered look great on your car!

Jordo 01-09-2011 10:43 PM

I'm confused. How did you get just that one size? Are they aftermarket replicas? Or did you buy 4 front tires?

4 front tires. I bought them on eBay actually. They are replicas. Since they are used in the winter it made more sense to get skinnier wheels all around.

Roger that. So.... Do i need the flares that ppl are talking about? Not 100% what they are.

The fender flares are on the 4.6is, they just extend the wheel arches. You don't need them, but totally your decision. Here's a picture of my moms 4.6is with the flares compared to mine without.

Look at the black fender trim on the X in post #4 to see what it looks like. It sticks out an inch or so. Then compare that to other stock 3.0 and 4.4 e53's.

It was standard on all 4.6is and 4.8is's.

Jordo 01-09-2011 11:16 PM

Thanks for clearing that up! Learn something new every day!

Or just look at the side-by-side photos Naz just posted. :D

You don't need them, but if you are planning on installing rear or front spacers to the staggered set up you currently have, I highly recommend them to avoid paint chips/dings from rocks or smaller particles. I have your same staggered set up with 10mm spacers up front and 25mm in the rears.

Nice. Side line pics? And this is a cosmetic mod, not a chassis upgrade... right?

Can't upload any pics right now, I'm on my iPhone. And yes this mod is strictly cosmetic. As Fseth mentioned, 4.6/4.8 only came with these arches and I believe a euro special edition 3.0 came with them. You can check out the whole kit for that euro 3.0 @ ecs tuning. Pretty easy install also.

Clockwork 03-19-2011 02:19 PM

what is the width and the offset (ET value) of the wheels you put on?

I just ordered 8.5" wide ET30 offset Beyern Rapps and am wondering waht size spacers I'll need.
I currently have a set of 15mm spacers for the fronts and am wondering if 20/25mm will be perfect for my rear set up as well.

Hmm I'm not sure. They are the standard BMW style 87s (non staggered) maybe someone else can chime in with the correct number? It's a very common wheel

Clockwork 03-19-2011 02:27 PM

Naz24, are they the 20" OE wheels, or 18" or 19" replicas by chance?

Naz24 03-19-2011 04:20 PM

20 inch replicas. They are the same dimensions as the oem though. My set up is non staggered (so the rears are the smaller width, same as the front ( as what would be found on the front of a 4.6is)
