MINTEX vs OEM?
Hi all,
Needing to replace front and rear discs (rotors) and pads soon and just looking around for the best prices with hopefully good quality parts. Does anyone have any experience with MINTEX? The price looks good (better than OEM) and as far as I can remember I thought Mintex was a good brand..? :dunno: Not looking to be stopping on a sixpence nor using my X for trackdays! Just looking for good performance (at least OEM standard or better) at a decent price-if there is such a thing? Looking forward to your input.. |
I've run Mintex before on a different BMW and they always felt "soft" to me. Pedal feel just wasn't there at all. I won't use them anymore. Performance Friction is my first choice, Hawk my second.

I have them. Kinda noisy at first, but they seem to be wearing in now. Seem fine to me, but they do dust even more than OEM. the OEM pads were rather expensive, and Mintex is a supplier to BMW and Mercedes, so I think it is a decent choice. Maybe not the very best option available, but not a bad choice either.
No soft pedal in my case btw. |
I used Mintex years ago, but not on my X5. I liked Axxis Deluxe, which may be sold under the PBR/Repco name in the UK, I am not sure.

For a long time OEM was Mintex at least in the 70's and early 80's. I would go with the PF or Axxis as I have used both and both perform very well. I first used the PF in my V8 Explorer with slotted/drilled rotors. (What a difference over OEM Ford junk!) When I apply my brakes I like to stop, I'm sorta funny like that!:D

I think OEMs are Pagids which make a Pagid Red line which got some good reviews

Mintex pads are okay for performance, but I think they dust almost as bad as OEM. Axxis Deluxe worked the best for me before. I'm running Centric's now, and they are pretty good, but leave more dust than the Axxis.
