Yeah, they had it priced too high. I had said 32k and they said no, so I took your same approach. I'm glad you got it down though, an 06 CPO for that price isn't bad at all! I picked mine up with 9k on it so I haven't had any work that's been needed yet (knock on wood), but the BMW dealer out here in Louisville is Sam Swope. I took it there for an oil service and they seem pretty straight forward, also have heard good experiences from people I've met in the area. I don't have much of a background with dealerships as I used to own an E36 and either did the work myself or took it to a good indy back in VA where we moved from. So when things do start to act up depending on how serious the repair, Swope will probably be my first bet until I find a decent indy out here. MPG wise I'm averaging between high 17 to low 19 with about a 50/50 mix of Highway and City. If I were to let it run to empty I would probably be around 370 to 400 per tank.

Sam Swope is good. I bought parts from them before and they were as cheap as you could find anywhere, way better that Don Jacobs. Interesting about your fuel mileage though, I drive about 90% highway and am only getting 14.......

I had the faults read on my buddys GT1 and It had none. I also lifted it in the air and let all four wheels spin. Then i got under it and i think the bracket that holds the transfer case might be going bad but I dont think its bad enough. I also have had European Motors do alot of my work and they are really good. Gary down there locates the problem instead of just replacing parts. For example...My abs 4x4 and brake light was on. No on could figure it out. i took it to him and he started the hunt. He actually found the problem instead of just replacing parts. He even thought it was the abs module at first ordered one and when he took it out he looked at the old one and said nothing was wrong with it. So he didnt charge me and just put a part in. I thought that was real honest of him. I know Don Jacobs would have said it was bad charge me thousands of dollars and called me back to say I had more then one issue. It turned out to be a 200 dollar wheel bearing that was causing a mis reading on the speed sensor, which caused the lights to come on. While it was down there I also had him look at the transfer case and no issue. Im sure if i take it down there and let him diaganose the issue he can figure it out. Im just not ready to pay for that yet. My best advice for you is stay away from Don Jacobs when your CPO runs out. Or if you have the time I would Drive to Cincinnati and go to the BMW store. They are very good. And I highly reccommend them if you have warranty. I Know European motors does warranty work but im not sure if he does cpo warranty. I will check for you.

I wish I knew more about the X so to suggest where to start your trouble shooting. Good thing you have the CPO to fall back on as you try to get it all sorted out. Do you have the maintenance history?
