12V Power in Glove Box
By searching the forums I had found out about the 12V source in he glove box by using the flashlight charing port. I ordered and received my 12V adapter but when going to plug it in all I find is a plastic cover shown below. The far doesn't have a flashlight (got the X5 second-hand plus it's a base model), is this the socket in the glove box? Does it just have a cover on it? Or does the base X5 not have the power source in that location?

My 2002 3.0d also doesn't have that plug.

Most likely the wiring is there behind the glovebox.

Most every option is prewired at the factory. That is why so many retro-fit projects go so easily. Most likely there is a connector behind where the flashlight is mounted and you'll need to find the fuse in the fuse box to power it up.

I wouldn't, I saw that film and its none too pleasant! |
The plug is there. Saw it when I removed my glove box. Just remove the cover.

Thanks, I'll give it a look...

Look for the 12v outlet just behind the glovebox, in the passenger footwell towards the center of the car,
You can plug it in there and run it into the glovebox pretty easily. |
