Radio Issues

Hi all,

I have this intermittent issue with the stereo. It is a 2002 4.4i with Nav, but no DSP or bluetooth even though I had assumed it did. But anyway.

Every now and then, this god awful noise takes control of the radio, can't exactly pin point when or where it will happen. Sort of sounds like nails down a chalk board and and really loud. Funny thing is, when I turn the radio volume down, it stays at the same volume and when I turn it off, which it lets me do, the noise will continue until it decides to go away.

Very annoying.

Thoughts?

Probably the BM module is dying.

Milsy 01-07-2011 04:38 PM

Ah sweet. So what is the BM module...?

Milsy 01-07-2011 04:39 PM

And also, how do I fix it?

thats what mine did before it died. check your battery box for water! mine was 1/2 full. that's where the radio is. how do you fix it? you go on ebay and buy a used radio
good luck

Will do this afternoon, cheers. For some reason it isn't happening now. The people that owned it before didn't drive it very often, so maybe there were battery issues, low charge etc. Will check out the battery box though... TW what is the BM module? Did he mean the general module?

It is next to the battery, along the other modules located there and it looks like this:

If it really is the culprit, it sometimes can be fixed, based on what electronic parts of it died. You will have to take to an electronics repair center to get a verdict. Otherwise, you can get from the scrape yard or ebay. There are various versions of it, so make sure you get the correct one, or you will have to fit the new on if you are upgrading.

ah sweet, cheers. If it was this, would the sound also occur while listening to the CD changer? Or just when using the radio?

Any sound source.
