Check Parking Lights Message

Hi,

I get the 'CHECK PARKING LIGHTS' message on the display but not sure what im supposed to check here. All lights seem to work fine. Any ideas?

You likely have a bulb out somewhere. If you don't, it can be a bad connection in the tail light socket, essentially corrosion that prevents good contact. Cleaning the socket can help. There are posts on tail light socket repairs, worth doing a search here.

Thanks, will check all light bulbs to see if any are out. If not ill check for corrosion like you mentioned

Seems like the drivers side side light is not working as shown in the pics.

How easy is it to replace the bulb and are there any instructions on here?

Thanks in advance

Also, what bulb would i need.

These are adapative xenons

JCL 01-16-2011 04:24 PM

Looks like you have more than one problem. The warning was for the parking light; your first picture shows the passenger side amber parking light out as well as any problems with the angel eyes and main beams in the second picture. The parking light is a simple bulb replacement.

Not sure why the indicator light in pic 1 comes on when the lights are on low. However, when i turn to main only the xenons come on but not the angel eye on the driver side. How easy is the bulb for the angel eye to change and what bulb would you recommend

Hi,

Anyone have experience of the following bulbs from ebay

BMW X5 E53 LED Xenon Look Angel Eyes Marker Bulbs Set on eBay (end time 03-Feb-11 10:48:38 GMT)

Not much difference in price from the dealers but obviously different coloured bulb.

X5H 01-17-2011 07:02 PM

Anyone?

The side marker comes up on all euro models when your parking lights are dead, as a security measure. The car then temporary uses the side marker until you change the dead parking light. So having the marker light up while the parking light is dead, is perfectly normal.

The bulb change is pretty easy. The space behind the headlight allows an easy replacement, unlike say E60, where you have to at least tilt the headlight or even drop your bumper and take the headlight down, for a simple bulb replacement.

Unfortunately I can't advice about the ebay LEDs, since they are tricky, some might blink continuously or other can come with OBC errors about the parking light. You will probably have to confirm with the seller that the LEDs are error free, or maybe somebody who bought from him can confirm that.

Thanks for the reponse. The seller has stated that there is no flickers and no errors. Ill give them a go and see how I get on. Feedback from people who have purchased LEDs from this guy seem positive too

Sounds good. Good luck with it and waiting for the result pics when you get the LEDs.

r/e your light issues, i to have had the same thing and found that if i disconnect and re connect the black connector on the back of the head light assembly it goes away.

worth a try, plus its real cheap if it fixes it

I did try this but problem was still there. To be honest i had the bulb out and can see it burnt out

X5H 01-20-2011 06:20 PM

Bulbs arrived today and fitted. Very easy to replace. Will take some pics and add tomorrow. All in all i think it looks good and no errors being displayed

Looking good :)

Thanks

A big thank you to chas3 as I had exactly the same problem at the weekend and was puzzled by the indicator light coming on instead of the sidelight. The handbook doesn't tell you about this. Anyway I took it to Halfords thinking the bulb needed changed and it turned out to be only a loose connection!
thanks again.

chas3 01-26-2011 07:42 PM

Yeah, loose connections or contacts corrosion might occur, both to front headlights bulbs and the rear ones. Glad it worked out in the end :)

julezw 01-29-2012 05:37 PM

G'day,

I originally had the same problem as X5h, parking light warning, angel eyes on same side were not on for a few days. Got around to getting a bulb before I do it I check the lights again and bam! problem is worse: no xenons at all, no fogs and high beams only work with temp foward press wont stay on. Any thoughts or things to check guys?

Gardar Rafnsson 01-29-2012 05:49 PM

I still have the Xenon light and turning light, missing left angel, no power suppley to the left angel?
greeting from iceland
