transmission fluid temperature
Hi, I was told by the GT1 system, that I need to replace the temperature sensor for the transmission fluid.
However, I can not find anywhere in the world, where such sensor should be. any ideas??? auto box, zf5hp24...... |
Never mind....I just found out, that this sensor (really tiny one), is included with the valve body harness, you have to dig through the cables to see it....so if your computer tells you have a bad tranny fluid temp sensor...it's the whole harness :|

BTW, did you get a CEL on the dash when that happens? |
I am getting the dreaded Transmission Fail safe program...let you know if I fix it....but the answer is no, I was just getting TFP.....

In case it helps, to check the calibration of the TOT sensor you can measure the resistance between pins 13 & 14 at the transmission casing connector and check the reading against the graph to see if the temperature is broadly correct :

Thank you Phil, it did help, a lot, I was able to test it, and it seems to be within range.
so, moving on....as I have no clue as to why as soon as I start the car, I get Failsafe mode. |
I guess the next step is to check that you’re getting the same reading at the transmission ECU? I’m not sure if E53 is identical to the L322 Range Rover but on the Range Rover it’s pins 12 & 22 on connector C1835

anyone have the part number part number for the trans temp sensor/harness?
having trouble finding it on realoem... '04 4.4i w/ 6sp ZF Thanks! |
Unlike the 5HP24, the ZF 6HP26 has the transmission ECU attached to the valve block inside the sump pan (they call the whole thing the mechatronic module) so there is no wiring harness. The fluid temperature sensor is built into the mechatronic unit.

So can't replace just the temp sensor on the 6HP26? If it goes, do you have to get the entire mechatronic unit? I'm getting ready to change the trans fluid & filter, etc and a very good local Bimmer shop said change the temp sensor while you're in there...they tend to go out and cause problems. He might have thought I had the 5 speed. That sounds bothersome if my trans temp sensor eventually does go out, though.... Thanks again Dr. Phil! |
