2001 X5 4.4i with PROBLEMS
Hey guys,
Just bought my 1st 2001 Bmw X5 4.4i and making my 1st post on the forums. Unfortunately it's not a good one..... The truck has a few problems. The one that concerns me the most is that the wipers, power locks and windows and lights on the interior roof of the car do not work. Also when clicking the button on the key to unlock or lock the doors it doesnt work either. The rear wiper works, as do the lights on the sunvisors when sliding open the mirrors. I was wondering if any of you would have an idea as to what the problem may be, or if anyone has had the same issues and how they resolved them?? Any info would be appreciated Thanks |
first, check for blown fuses in the rear compartment and the glove box. search on here and you will find a way to reprogram your key and see if that soves any problems. those are the first two things to do.

the first thing I would check are all of the fuses. There is a fuse panel located in the glove box area and another located in the right rear panel of the vehicle.
If not a fuse problem then you may have a wire that is shorting out the bus that serves as the communication path for all of these devices. Tracing that down could be quite complicated and tricky depending on your expertise. You may need to get it to a qualified mechanic that knows the ins and outs of the BMW bus architecture to help diagnose and correct the problem. :goodluck: and :xoutpost: |
Thanks guys!
I'll look into those things asap. |
Are you able to open the lower tailgate?
Are you able to lock the upper tailgate? Just asking because I had a similar strange problem. |
No I'm not able to.... The button doesn't work.
Did you fix the problem? |
Oh and I forgot to mention that the alarm rings for about 10secs once I turn off the car.....
|
Hi,
I have cut a cable on error. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...se-needed.html On post #6 the module wher I have cut a wire, on post #8 the solution. Hope it helps. EDIT: do not have an alarm in my X. |
tailgate
Check if the 2 plate number lights located under the tailgate lid are soiled. If yes, could be bad gasket issue which allows water and mud to enter resulting to short circuiting your wires.
Dismantle the tailgate lid, clean parts with water and brush, dry and replace with new gasket. also replace the lid rubber button. |

Thanks for the help!! it was exactly what you said! Some one had initially tried to install a remote starter in the car and who ever installed it did a really bad job. They had left wires loose and unsoldered...... which eventually shorted out. Anyways, all is fixed and the job really wasn't that expensive  I found a guy who works at a bmw dealership in Montreal who does work on the side and he charges a third of the price of the dealer!:D |
