Headlights Washer-Nozzle Testing?

'05 X5 4.8iS LeMans

Folks, after reading owner's manual I am confused to "what exactly I need to do" to find out if my headlight washers are working or not? I read on the web that after 5-6 sprays on windshield the headlight washer cycle should initiate itself automatically (not happening in my case) and after that to check "the washer pump (where is it located?). It drives me crazy not being able to figure out this feature especially during dirty winter days.

Thank You

Push the button on the end of the wiper stalk. That should do it.

Could be the pump...located behind your washer fluid tank. Been discussed, do a search.

The pump is located on the side of the fluid reservoir under the hood and has the large black hose attached to it. Mine stopped working and had to be replaced. It is a very simple replacement procedure and actually swapped it out in the BMW dealer parking lot. Make sure you get the new rubber tank to pump seal grommet as well.

the headlight washers need specific programming in the dme. some of the x's that have the washers did not come programmed to work from the factory (that's what happened to me). check with the dealer or your indy for the programming.

Hint: the lights must be turned ON, in order for the headight washer jets to spray .... [ it is the same on the MB's].
