Air Suspension Problems - Replace with standard shocks/struts

I'm having problems with my full air suspension on my 05 X5 4.8, so I'm considering replacing it with a standard suspension. Perhaps Bilstein shocks and factory springs. Has anyone done this? And if so whats involved? I'm assuming I would need factory brackets, etc. in addition to shocks/struts and springs. How does the ride quality compare? Any help would be appreciated.
